Score in every goal: Hackney Marshes football challenge opens to the public

A yearly football challenge of scoring in every goal at Hackney Marshes became a public event this January and encouraged strangers to join.

‘The Score a Goal in Every Goal at Hackney Marshes’ requires players to find the net in all 138 goals on the 69 pitches across the fields in one day, and it takes about two hours.

Co-Founder Dan Berg started this tradition in January 2024 with his friend Ben, and the following year more of his friends joined, as adverts on Reddit and Eventbrite were published for this year to invite a collective of strangers together.

In London, and a borough like Hackney, starting a new job or moving for schooling can be daunting and lonely, according to Berg. He described how his event can connect a collective of random people, whilst all keeping fit in the process.

Berg created a QR code for players to scan at the start to allow everyone to follow the same route at different paces.

He said: “It’s a community event. Whoever wants to join, can join.”
