Hackney business owners have expressed their concerns over their income following the introduction of a new Low Traffic Neighbourhood in Chatsworth Road.
The Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme was created as part of a strategy to improve air quality, reduce congestion, and encourage active travel.
Recent LTNs such as Chatsworth Road, Dalston and Hoxton followed a three-stage consultation process, which included travel survey feedback from residents, a public consultation, and a statutory consultation, according to Hackney Council.
Councillor Sarah Young, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: “These traffic measures don’t stop people from driving to a particular destination, but it might take longer by car than by other means of transport.”
There are exemptions in place for blue badge holders with disabilities, taxis when transporting Taxicard holders, and school buses, according to Young.
Hackney Residents can email [email protected] with any comments or concerns regarding the new LTNs.
They can also raise them with their local ward councillor, or by raising a deputation or petition.
