Transgender Awareness Week London events 2023

Transgender Awareness Week London 2023 will run all next week ahead of Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) on 20 November.

The annual movement is meant to raise awareness, celebrate, and support transgender people, culminating in TDoR, which mourns and remembers transgender individuals who lost their lives due to transphobia.

The Cocoa Butter Club Social

The Cocoa Butter Club in Stoke Newington is celebrating Black and POC trans and non-binary individuals in their first ever social on Tuesday 14 November.

The event promises friend dates, life drawing, cabaret and tacos.

TRANScending Sex Zine Workshop

Famous Haggerston LGBTQ+ club The Glory will host a trans and non-binary sex-focused zine making workshop on Wednesday 15 November, providing a discussion space to speak candidly (or just listen!) about how being trans affects one’s view of sex and sexuality while making a personal zine.

Transparent storytelling event with Vickie Holden

Professional storyteller Vickie Holden will star in this unique one-woman show in Haggerston, telling transition stories from myth, legend, and Holden’s own experience on 15 and 16 November.

The event will be followed by a discussion with opportunities for questions and conversation. 

912 exhibition by Niya B

This immersive 360-video experience in Shoreditch was created with performances from trans and non-binary individuals exploring frustration, hope, and support.

The title reflects the number of days Niya had to wait for her first appointment at the Gender Identity Clinic.

The exhibition will run from 15-19 November.

Songs of All with Harem of No One

The Mildmay Club in Stoke Newington will host Harem of No One, a queer and feminist collective of performers of Turkish, Kurdish, Cypriot and Southwest-Asian heritages, on Thursday 16 November.

A night of singing, art, and celebration is expected.

The Breakup Monologues live recording

Award-winning podcast The Breakup Monologues will be recording an episode live in Hoxton on Friday 17 November, covering topics such as love, heartbreak, and recovery with special guests.

Queer Film Club Screening

The London LGBTQ+ Community Centre in Bankside will screen the documentary Black Sheep on Sunday 19 November.

The film follows a group of trans women in Mumbai as they navigate their daily lives.

Trans Grief Sauna

A special edition of Trans Sauna will be hosted on TDoR in Hackney Wick.

The Trans Grief Sauna will guide trans and non-binary individuals through feelings of anger, fear, and loss associated with TDoR with the aid of trained facilitators.

Celebration of trans representation in art

V&A South Kensington LGBTQ Working Group members will host a show-and-tell session on Monday 20 November.

The event will celebrate trans and non-binary representation in the National Art Library.

TDoR lunch and performances

Barking and Dagenham’s LGBT+ Staff Network will hold a flag-raising event followed by speeches, lunch, and performances in Barking Town Hall on 20 November.

Not A Phase TDoR Vigil

Charity organisation Not A Phase will hold a vigil for TDoR in Soho Square on 20 November.

The vigil will remember trans people who have died in the last year and celebrate the trans+ community.
