The Baltic sea food restaurant has been selling Turkish cuisine for five years – from a boat.
The increasing rent prices in London that pushed the Goksen family, who had a background in hospitality, to open a floating restaurant, moving up and down East London canals, from Tottenham Hale to Limehouse.
The restaurant soon became a local landmark, with regulars waiting for the boat’s arrival near their homes, following their route on social media.
Director Murat Goksen said: “It’s nice to see people coming back, it’s always nice to see familiar faces.
“They’re familiar with our food, our service so it’s very heartwarming.”
Running a restaurant from a boat presents many challenges, as food deliveries need to be organised daily, at constantly changing locations.
Other technical difficulties might arise: the original Baltic Sea Food boat sank last year, prompting the entire business to relocate to another one.
