YouTube sensation Niko Omilana humorously believes he should be the next Manchester United head coach after his Baller League side’s impressive debut season.
The Celebrity Traitors contestant’s side, the NDL, finished second in the six-a-side league table but was knocked out in the play-off semi-finals of the new-format football tournament, which famously mixes influencers, ex-professionals, and unconventional rules.
Niko, who has amassed over 24 million subscribers across three YouTube channels, is a huge Manchester United fan and, albeit tongue-in-cheek, believes he has what it takes to take over as permanent head coach at Old Trafford.
The former London mayoral hopeful said: “Niko Ball will be all United fans want. I know I can do it.
“People might say he’s just a YouTuber, he’s pathetic, he’s not taking the game of football seriously.
“Well, no one takes it more seriously than me. And I’ll do it with a smile on my face.”
With United legend Michael Carrick taking interim charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season, bookmakers have current Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as favourite for the club’s next permanent head coach.
However, if the perennial political candidate were to take charge on the red side of Manchester, he would happily remove the ex-player focus from the club in favour of his own team.
He said: “I’ve already got backroom staff.
“I feel like it’s best for me to be able to lock in and do the job properly.
“Roy Keane, I like him, but not in my backroom staff.”
The Beta Squad member’s side lost on the final day to close friend Sharky’s SDS, who finished runners-up after a narrow 4–3 defeat to Alan Shearer and Ian Wright’s Wembley Rangers in the final.
