WATCH: Gen Z dating is coming off the screen and into real life

Online dating has defined 21st century romance so far, but now Gen Z singles are ditching the apps and looking for love in the real world.

A 2024 Ofcom report shows that the UK’s top dating apps are waning in popularity, with Bumble’s user base falling by 25% May 2023 and May 2024 and Tinder experiencing a 23% decline.

As apps are struggling to stay in favour, London’s daters are embracing the wave of in-person events sweeping the capital.

Among these, is Sonder’s ‘Pitch Your Pals’, where presenters take to the stage to convince a room full of singles why their friend would make the perfect partner.

Sonder co-founder, Hannah Kin, said: “It’s a silly way to bring dating to more of an offline scene and it makes it easier for people to meet in person.”

As more Gen Zers are looking to take the romance off the screen and into real life, are we seeing a return to the old ways of dating?
