Be ‘Shaken and Stirred’ at special James Bond weekend

The 60th birthday of Britain’s favourite secret agent, James Bond, gifts fans an array of films, Q&As and martini-glasses full of action-packed spy escapades.

Celebrating 60 years of James Bond, the British Film Institute (BFI) will host a special weekend of events and screenings across its London venues.

From exciting Q&A’s with iconic Bond creators, to anniversary screenings of the franchise’s biggest films, and appearances from some very iconic vehicles; the James Bond at 60 weekend will take over the BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX cinemas from September 30th to October 2nd.

Marking both the build up to James Bond day – October 5th, the day 007 first graced the silver screen – and the London Film Festival, this exciting series of special, never-before-seen events is a must for every Bond girl or boy.

The weekend kicks off with an onstage conversation between Bond overseers and new BFI Fellows Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. The pair will discuss their careers and Bond journey, before the first screening of the weekend commences.

Transporting viewers back to their first outing with Britain’s best known spy, a 60th Anniversary screening of Dr No will close out the first night, reacquainting audiences with those dastardly villains, globe trotting adventures and melodic musical themes that first opened this iconic franchise.

Saturday offers up a variety of Bond escapades, spotlighting the 007 portrayals of Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton in 45th and 35th anniversary screenings of The Spy Who Loved Me and The Living Daylights

Audiences can also get up close and personal with the behind the scenes teams that bring this vast world of spy shenanigans to life in a Q&A with stunt and special effects crews – including the legendary special effects supervisor Chris Corbould.

Filling out Saturday’s schedule is a preview of the new documentary The Sound of 007. Director Mat Whitecross will walk audiences through the vast history of Bond music, from memorable scores to the award-winning pop songs that keep 007 alive today. A Q&A segment will unite Whitecross with lyricist Don Black and composer David Arnold in a bold conversation between the creative musical minds of 007.

The celebratory weekend will end in a more modern era with an IMAX triple-billing of Daniel Craig’s recent adventures.

Sunday’s stunning schedule includes the 10th anniversary of Sam Mendes’s award-winning Skyfall, his beloved 2015 sequel Spectre, and the film that was “instrumental in bringing global audiences back to the cinema” – 2021’s No Time To Die

As the world’s favourite secret agent turns 60 head on down to the BFI for a weekend of never-before-seen conversations, iconic silver screen returns for some of the franchise’s biggest films and an array of iconic Austin Martins leading the way.

Tickets are on sale now at the BFI and BFI IMAX.
