Two-time Premier League champion Robert Pires has emphasised how his connection with Jens Lehmann is key to N5 FC’s success in Baller League season two.
Baller League is an indoor, six-a-side football league led by influencers, where teams are managed by former professional players and celebrities.
The pair of Arsenal Invincibles’ co-manage in the league alongside YouTuber Eman ‘SV2’ Balogun, who replaced Freddie Ljungberg at the start of the season.
The 1998 World Cup winner said: “For me and Jens, it’s a new football. I like it because we can see skills, ability, strong shots, penalties, one-on-one’s with the keeper. That’s why I’m here.
“Of course, it’s totally different when you watch a real game, but I’m happy. I’m very excited for the next season too. I’m here because I love the concept of Baller League.”
In a drastic change from their single win last season, the Frenchman’s side are yet to lose this campaign, something the Arsenal icon attributes to his ex-teammate.
The 2000 Euros winner and goalkeeping legend played 139 games together before the former French international left Arsenal for Villarreal in 2006.
In that time, the players won the Premier League in 2004 and the FA cup in 2005, and the connection they forged in that time is something Pires feels is essential for his sides success.
Despite playing conventional 11-a-side football, Pires believes the experience gained is easily transferrable to the smaller, more intense nature of Baller League.
The 52-year-old said: “I don’t know what qualities you need to manage. I’m not a real manager. The most important thing between myself, Jens, and the players is communication and balance.
“We can put more experience because Jens and I played at a high level. Of course, it’s not the same, but we can share. We enjoy it, and I hope the players enjoy playing for N5 FC.”
