Leyton now has a distinctly Brazilian feel after becoming the new home of the growing sport of footvolley.
The sport is played on the sand at SideOut Leyton, and follows the same rules as beach volley but without using your hands or arms.
It originated from the beaches of Rio De Janeiro when football was banned in the 60s, and the sport is now growing in popularity in London.
Footvolley instructor Josh Brooks said: “I want to try and get more beginners in, build the sport here, and get as many people fit while enjoying a nice sport.
“It’s difficult, and the football skills don’t always translate as you’d expect, but after a few training sessions people really enjoy it.”
SideOut host beginner and advanced sessions as players work in pairs to fight through the sand and produce acrobatic rallies over the 2.2m net.
